    SECTION 16441

    ENCLOSED SWITCHES

   PART 1 - GENERAL

   1.01 SECTION INCLUDES

    A. Fusible switches.

    B. Nonfusible switches.

    C. Fuses.

   1.02 REFERENCES

    A. American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

    1. ANSI/NFPA 70 - National Electrical Code.

    B. National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA).

    1. NEMA KS 1 - Enclosed Switches.

    2. NEMA 250 Enclosures for Electrical Equipment.

    C. Underwriters Laboratories (UL): Applicable listings.

    1. UL 98 - Enclosed and Dead Front Switches.

    2. UL 198E - Class R Fuses.

    3. UL 198C - High-Interrupting Capacity Fuses; Current Limiting Type.

   1.03 SUBMITTALS

    A. Submit under provisions of Section 01300.

    B. Product Data: Provide outline drawings with dimensions, and ratings for voltage, amperage, horsepower and short circuit.

    C. Manufacturer's Instructions: Indicate application conditions and limitations of use stipulated by Product testing agency specified under Regulatory Requirements. Include instructions for storage, handling, protection, examination, preparation, installation, and starting of Product.

   1.04 QUALITY ASSURANCE

    A. Perform Work in accordance with NECA Standard of Installation.

   1.05 QUALIFICATIONS

    A. Manufacturer: Company specializing in manufacturing Products specified in this Section with minimum three years documented experience.

   1.06 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

    A. Deliver products to site under provisions of Section 01600.

    B. Store and protect products under provisions of Section 01600.

    C. Accept products on site and verify damage.

   1.07 EXTRA MATERIALS

    A. Furnish under provisions of Section 01700.

    B. Provide three of each size and type fuse installed.

   PART 2 - PRODUCTS

   2.01 MANUFACTURERS

    A. Square D Company.

    B. Westinghouse Electric Corporation.

    C. Substitutions: Under provisions of Section 01600.

   2.02 ENCLOSED SWITCHES

    A. Fusible Switch Assemblies: NEMA KS 1, Type HD load interrupter enclosed knife switch with externally operable handle interlocked to prevent opening front cover with switch in ON position. Handle lockable in OFF position. Fuse clips: Designed to accommodate Class R fuses.

    B. Nonfusible Switch Assemblies: NEMA KS 1, Type HD load interrupter enclosed knife switch with externally operable handle interlocked to prevent opening front cover with switch in ON position. Handle lockable in OFF position.

    C. Enclosures: NEMA KS 1.

    1. Interior Dry Locations: Type 12.

    2. Exterior, Wet or Damp Locations: Type 4X stainless steel.

    3. Corrosive Environments: Non-metalic Type 4X.

    4. Hazardous Locations: Type 7.

   2.03 FUSES

    A. Manufacturers:

    1. Bussmann.

    2. GEC Alsthom.

    3. Substitutions: Under provisions of Section 01600.

    B. Description: Dual element, current limiting, one-time fuse, 600 volt, UL 198E, Class RK 1.

    C. Interrupting Rating: 200,000 rms amperes.

   PART 3 - EXECUTION

   3.01 EXAMINATION

    A. Verify conditions under provisions of Section 01039.

    B. Verify locations of switches prior to rough-in.

    C. Verify that surfaces are ready to receive Work.

   3.02 INSTALLATION

    A. Install disconnect switches where indicated.

    B. Install enclosures plumb. Anchor securely to wall and structural supports at each corner.

    C. Install switches with a 1/2-inch clearance between the box and the surface. Spacers shall be 1 x 1/2 x 1/8-inch bar channels. Wood spacers shall not be installed.

    D. Install fuses in fusible disconnect switches.

    E. Provide adhesive label on inside door of each switch indicating UL fuse class and size for replacement.
