General Construction Specifications

   PART 1 - GENERAL

    01 WORK INCLUDED

    A. Contractor shall provide and install a complete installation of panel filters, roll filters, bag filters, combinations of these and high efficiency final filters, in factory fabricated housing equipped with appropriate draft gauge.

    02 QUALITY ASSURANCE

    A. Test filters in accordance with the D.O.P. test when drawings call for efficiency of 95% and above.

    B. Test filters in accordance with ASHRAE 52-76 when drawings call for an efficiency of 90% and below.

    C. Meet NFPA 90A requirements for flammability.

    03 SUBMITTALS

    A. Submit product data to Owner for approval in accordance with Section 15010.

   PART 2 - PRODUCTS

    04 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS

    A. American Air Filter, Cambridge, Continental, Farr, or approved equal.

    05 EQUIPMENT

    A. Combination Filters:

    1. Filters designated as Roll-O-Paks or Cells consist of a rolling fiberglass type prefilter and sock type panel disposable media after filter, assembled together in one complete unit.

   

    06 DISPOSABLE PANEL FILTERS

    A. Media: Two inch thick fiber blanket, factory sprayed with flameproof, non-drip, non-volatile adhesive, nominal size to be 24 x 24 except where supplied for installation in air conditioning equipment, size as required.

    B. Rating: 500 FPM face velocity, 0.15 inch WG initial resistance, 0.50 inches WG recommended final resistance.

    C. Casing: Cardboard frame with perforated metal retainer.

    07 DISPOSABLE, EXTENDED AREA PANEL FILTERS

    A. Media: Pleated, lofted, non-woven, reinforced cotton fabric; supported and bonded to welded wire grid; enclosed in cardboard frame; nominal size 24 x 24 x 2 inches thick, except face dimensions may vary as required for installation within air conditioning equipment.

    B. Rating: ASHRAE 52; 25-30 percent dust spot efficiency, 90-92 percent weight arrestance; 500 FPM face velocity, 0.30 inch WG initial resistance, 1.0 inch WG recommended final resistance.

    08 FILTER FRAMES

    A. General: Fabricate filter frames and supporting structures of 16 gage galvanized steel, acid etched and covered with air dried phenolic coating (Heresite), T-section construction with necessary gasketing between frames and walls.

    B. Standard Sizes: Provide for interchangeability of filter media of other manufacturers; for panel filters, size for 24 x 24 inches filter media, minimum 2 inches thick; for extended surface and high efficiency particulate air filters, provide for upstream mounting of panel filters.

    C. Side Servicing Housings: Flanged for insertion into ductwork, of reinforced 16 gage galvanized steel, acid etched and covered with air dried phenolic coating (Heresite); access doors with continuous gasketing and positive locking devices on both sides; extruded aluminum tracks or channels for primary and secondary filters with positive sealing gaskets.

    09 FILTER GAGES

    A. Direct Reading Dial: 3-1/2 inch ] diameter diaphragm actuated dial in metal case, vent valves, black figures on white background, front recalibration adjustment, range 0-1.0 inch WG (except 0-2.0 inch WG for HEPA filters), 2 percent of full scale accuracy.

    B. Inclined Manometer: One piece molded plastic with epoxy coated aluminum scale, inclined-vertical indicating tube and built-in spirit level, range 0-3 inch WG, 3 percent of full scale accuracy.

    C. Accessories: Static pressure tips with integral compression fittings, 1/4 inch aluminum or plastic tubing, 2-way or 3-way vent valves.

   PART 3 - EXECUTION

    010 INSTALLATION

    A. Provide filters in locations as shown on drawings of sizes and capacities as scheduled.

    B. Install filters in accordance with manufacturer's published installation instructions.

    C. Filters shall be installed in frames or apparatus casing so as to be leak free. Verify with light test from both sides.

    D. Furnish a draft gauge, outside air stream, for each bank of filters.

    E. Protect heating and/or heating coils with media during construction.

    F. Deliver one complete change of media to the Owner.

    G. Provide insulation as required on filter housing to insure elimination of sweating.

    H. Insulate and make leak-proof filter doors.
