General Construction Specifications

   PART 1 - GENERAL

    01 WORK INCLUDED

    A. All labor, materials, tools, and services for a complete chemical water treatment system as described on Drawings and by the requirements of this section.

    B. Replacement chemicals and service as required for a period of one year from date of substantial completion.

    02 SUBMITTALS

    A. Submit manufacturer's product data to Architect for approval as required by Section 15010.

   PART 2 - PRODUCTS

    03 ONE SHOT CHEMICAL FEEDER

    A. Bypass feeder shall be 5 gallon capacity and have a working pressure of 150 psi. Feeders shall be complete with funnel with all fill valve, drain valve, and inlet and outlet connections.

    04 CONDUCTIVITY CONTROLLED CHEMICAL FEEDER

    A. Conductivity controller shall be factory pre-wired, solid state with output to both a grounded duplex receptacle and to terminal strip. Controller shall be enclosed in a NEMA 12X fiberglass enclosure with a hinged, molded Lexan door complete with padlocking hasp. Controller shall have 3" analog meter with linear reading scale of 0-3000 micro MHO/CM. Control settings shall be made directly on the meter display.

    B. Timer for Proportional Inhibitor Feed shall be mounted on the same panel as the conductivity controller. Auto-Off-Manual switch is provided and a 0-9 minute dial for setting time of pump operation and automatically reset after completion of each cycle. Timer shall employ a Class II prewired connection to the contacting head water meter.

    C. TDS - Sensing Probe shall be constructed of PVC with a carbon electrode, and shall have 3/4" NPT connections with quick electrical disconnect for easy removal and cleaning. Sensing probe shall be rated for service to 100 psi and 140oF.

    D. Contacting Head Meter shall meet AWWA standard C708-76, and be sized to system requirements, furnished with couplings. Contacting head to be calibrated to 10 or 100 gallons/contact.

    E. Bleedoff Solenoid Valve and Y Strainer shall be sized to the specific system capacity and pressure. The bleedoff solenoid valve shall be an ASCO Model 8210D or equal consisting of a brass body, Nema 1 enclosure rated at 120 volts.

    F. Chemical Feed Pump shall be an electronic metering positive displacement type pump. The feed rate shall be adjustable while the pump is operating. The pump shall be sized to the system pressure and output capacity. All polyethylene suction and discharge tubing shall be supplied, along with foot valve and injection valve.

    G. Injection Assembly of PVC design shall be installed for injection of chemicals into the condenser water line.

    05 CONDUCTIVITY CONTROLLED CHEMICAL FEEDER WITH BLOWDOWN CONTROL

    A. Chemical water treatment system shall include total dissolved solids conductivity controller with probe and sample timer, electrically actuated blowdown valve, flow throttling valve, chemical feed tank with agitator, chemical feed pump, and water sample cooler.

    B. Conductivity controller shall be factory prewired, solid state enclosed in a Nema 4X fiberglass enclosure with padlocking hasp. Controller shall have a 3" analog meter with linear reading scale of 0-5000 UMHO/CM. Control settings shall be made directly on the meter display. Provide controller with an adjustable sample timer and an in-line type setting probe in a 1" cross. Probe shall have a minimum pressure rating of 300 psi.

    C. Blowdown control valve shall be constructed of carbon steel body with 316 stainless steel ball and stem, with a working side pressure rating of not less than 450 psi. Valve shall have 1/2" NPT connection and be complete with electric actuator.

    D. Flow throttling valve shall have a bronze body with stainless steel disc and seat. Valve shall have a 450 psi working side pressure rating, micrometer dial, and 1/2" NPT connections.

    E. Chemical feed tank shall have a polyethylene liner mounted on a steel frame with legs. Tank shall be a minimum 50 gallon capacity and be provided with a cast iron strainer and stainless steel relief valve. Agitator shall be direct drive 1750 RPM, 1/4 HP motor with stainless steel shaft and propeller.

    F. Chemical feed pump shall be a positive displacement piston type pump with double stainless steel check. Pump shall be 1/4 HP, 115 volt 60 cycle ball bearing gearhead-motor with thermal overload protection.

    G. Water sample cooler shall have 450 psi coil and 250 psi stainless steel shell.

   PART 3 - EXECUTION

    06 INSTALLATION

    A. Provide a one year supply of the recommended formulas for the prevention of scale, corrosion and biological growth in the open recirculating system. All formulations must be compatible with system construction materials and meet or exceed all environmental requirements.

    B. The water treatment company will supply all testing and reagents, necessary to properly maintain the treatment program.

    07 SERVICE AND TRAINING

    A. The water treatment company will provide a water treatment service program for a period of one year from system startup. This program shall include: startup assistance, plant personnel training, periodic service calls and inspection of system equipment.

    08 APPLICATIONS

    A. Provide one shot chemical feeder for the following services:

    1. Chill water systems

    2. Hot water systems

    3. Closed loop hydronic heat pump systems

    B. Provide conductivity controlled chemical feed systems for the following services:

    1. Open cooling tower (condenser water systems)

    C. Provide conductivity controlled chemical feed with blowdown control for the following systems:

    1. Steam boilers
