General Construction Specifications
PART 1 - GENERAL
01 WORK INCLUDED
A. Sleeves required for piping systems as follows.
1. Sanitary waste and vent.
2. Domestic cold water.
3. Domestic hot water.
4. Natural gas.
5. Compressed air (non-clinical)
1.02 QUALITY ASSURANCE AND CODE COMPLIANCE
A. Refer to Specifications Section 15308: Plumbing General Provisions.
B. Materials and installation shall meet with federal, state and local code requirements, including fire safing sleeve packing material.
1.03 NON-SPECIFIED/LISTED PRODUCT OR MATERIAL SUBSTITUTIONS
A. Refer to Specifications Section 15308: Plumbing General Provisions, and Section 15309: Plumbing Product or Material Substitution Request Form.
B. If a manufacturer or Contractor wishes a non-specified/listed product or material to be considered and listed as an equivalent product or material, the above listed specifications sections shall be correctly followed, and submitted, or the proposed substitution shall be denied.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
02 SLEEVE MATERIALS
A. Sleeves shall be Schedule 40 steel pipe for mechanical room floors, roof, plaster walls, masonry walls and any area subject to exposure to moisture.
B. Sleeves shall be 18 gauge galvanized sheetmetal, or Schedule 40 steel pipe, for drywall walls. Protect sheetmetal sleeve from damage.
03 SLEEVE PACKING
A. Packing between pipes and sleeves shall be as required by NFPA, Federal, State, and local codes and requirements so as to restore the integrity of the floor, wall, or roof ratings. Asbestos shall NOT be used.
B. Specified piping insulation shall NOT run/route/pass through any sleeve.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
04 PREPARATION
A. Furnish Schedule 40 steel pipe sleeves, thru exterior building wall for natural gas pipe(s) entrance into building. Seal sleeve to water tight condition.
B. Sleeves shall be installed for piping passing through floors, walls or roof.
C. Piping shall be installed in the center of the sleeves with minimum clearance of 1/2 inch from pipe to sleeve. Pack voids between pipe and sleeve as specified above.
D. Floor sleeves shall extend 1-1/2 inches above finished floor. Wall sleeves shall terminate 1 inch on both ends. Roof sleeves shall extend 2 inches above roof.
