General Construction Specifications

    SECTION 15173

    FLOW MEASUREMENT

   PART 1 GENERAL

    1.01 DESCRIPTION

    A. This section covers flow measuring devices and appurtenances not covered in the Standard Contract Documents.

    B. Operating Principle: FARADAY'S LAW OF INDUCTED VOLTAGE ACROSS ANY CONDUCTORS MOVING IN A MAGNETIC FIELD. THE METER SHALL PRODUCE A REFERENCE VOLTAGE SIGNAL DIRECTLY PROPORTIONAL TO THE RATE OF FLUID FLOW.

   PART 2 PRODUCTS

    2.01 MAGNETIC FLOWMETER

    A. Magnetic flowmeter shall be electromagnetic induction pulsed D.C. type and shall produce a signal directly proportional to the liquid rate of flow with zero point stability.

    B. Meter Body shall be constructed of 203 stainless steel with 150 pound raised face carbon steel ANSI flanged end. Body shall be splash proof and weather resistant, designed to withstand accidental submergence.

    C. Liner shall be polyurethane, teflon or equivalent based on sludge consistency.

    D. Electrodes shall be 316 stainless steel, zirconium, platinum or tantalum. Connections for external power supply shall be provided.

    E. Grounding Rings of _" 315 stainless steel shall be provided when non-metallic, lined or coated process piping is used.

    F. Metering system accuracy, including readout instrumentation, shall be within + or - 1 percent of rate for a flow velocity of 1-33 feet per second.

    G. Meters shall be hydraulically calibrated to verify specified accuracy at the manufacturer's facility with traceability to the U.S. National Bureau of Standards. A computer printout of the calibration data shall be furnished with each meter along with the calibration curve.

    H. Magnetic flowmeters shall be Endress and Hauser, Foxboro, or Fisher-Porter.

    2.02 Magnetic Flowmeter Signal Converter

    A. Magnetic flowmeter signal converter shall be solid state feedback type, with integrated circuitry. The converter shall change a low level input signal into proportional 4-20 mA DC analog and pulse output signals for transmission to remote instrumentation.

    B. System accuracy, including the flowmeter, shall be + or - 1 percent of rate, analog and digital output, from 0-33 feet per second.

    C. A multifunction 16 digit LCD indicator shall be provided which shall monitor and display instantaneous flow rate, flow totalization in engineering units, and error messages.

    D. Electrical connections shall conform to the field wiring standards included in this specification, and shall be completely moisture and water tight. Power requirements are 120 VAC, ± 10%, 60 HZ.

    E. Signal converter shall be enclosed a splash and dust proof NEMA 4 stainless steel or cast aluminum enclosure.

   PART 3 EXECUTION

3.01 Location of flowmeter and signal converter shall be as shown on the Drawings.

3.02 All installation procedures shall comply with manufacturer's recommendations.
