General Construction Specifications
PART 1 - GENERAL
01 WORK INCLUDED
A. Contractor shall provide all materials, tools, labor and services required to install pipe hangers at proper intervals for piping systems specified in other Division 15 sections.
02 SUBMITTALS
A. Provide manufacturer's product data to Architect for approval in accordance with Section 15010.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
03 MANUFACTURERS
A. Provide products as manufactured by ITT Grinnell, Fee & Mason, or approved equal.
04 HANGERS
A. Provide carbon steel adjustable swivel ring, split ring type hangers for non-insulated pipe sizes from 1/2" to 1-1/2" diameter.
B. Provide carbon steel adjustable clevis type hangers for non-insulated pipe sizes from 2" to 4" diameter.
C. Provide carbon steel adjustable clevis type hangers with 12" long 18 gauge saddle for insulated pipe sizes from 1/2" to 4" diameter. Insulation shall be continuous with hanger and saddle sized to accommodate insulation thickness.
D. Provide carbon steel trapeze type hangers with adjustable pipe rollers and 18 gauge saddles for support of multiple pipes installed parallel to one another. Insulation shall be continuous with pipe rollers and saddles sized to accommodate insulation thickness.
E. Hanger rods shall be of sufficient size to carry the weight of the pipe and its contents but in no case shall they be smaller than 3/8" diameter. Hanger rods shall be continuously threaded. Hanger rod couplings will not be permitted.
F. Provide double rod roller type hangers with 18 gauge saddles for insulated piping 4" to 24" in diameter.
05 FLOOR SUPPORTS
A. Provide carbon steel pipe saddle support with cast iron floor flange for piping systems that are not subject to horizontal expansion of piping, i.e., continuous duty chill water piping, condenser water piping, etc.
B. Provide carbon steel pipe roller support with cast iron floor flange for piping systems subject to horizontal expansion of piping, i.e., hot water piping, etc. where piping systems may require vertical adjustment during installation provide adjustable roller supports.
06 VERTICAL PIPE RISER SUPPORTS
A. Provide carbon steel two bolt riser clamps for support of vertical pipe risers.
B. Provide carbon steel split ring riser clamps at penetrations of floor slabs.
07 ANCHORS, CLAMPS AND INSERTS
A. Provide malleable iron case insert of galvanized steel shell and expander plug for threaded connection with lateral adjustment, top slot for reinforcing rods, lugs for attachment to forms; size inserts to suit threaded hanger rods.
B. Provide C-clamps for attaching hangers to steel beams.
C. Provide malleable beam clamps for attachment of hangers to steel joists.
D. Provide anchors as required for proper anchorage including channels, plates, etc.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
08 INSTALLATION
A. Install pipe hangers, supports and hangers in accordance with manufacturers recommendations, the Contract Drawings and by the requirements of this section.
B. Provide hangers appropriate for type of piping used to prevent galvanic action by dissimilar metals.
C. The use of perforated metal, strap iron, or band iron will not be permitted.
D. Provide pipe guides of heavy fabricated steel consisting of a bolted two section outer cylinder and base with two section guiding spider bolted tight to pipe where shown on Drawings.
E. Sheet metal insulation protection saddles shall not extend past the centerline of the pipe on sides and shall be banded around pipe at each end.
09 HANGER AND SUPPORT SPACING
A. Provide hangers for horizontally hung steel pipe at the following minimum intervals:

3/4" to 1-1/4" 8'-0" o.c.
1-1/2" to 2-1/2" 10'-0" o.c.
3" 12'-0" o.c.
4" to 6" 14'-0" o.c.
8" to 12" 16'-0" o.c.
14" to 24" 20'-0" o.c.
B. Provide hangers for horizontally hung copper pipe at the following minimum intervals:
Pipe Diameter Spacing
5/8" 6'-0" o.c.
7/8" to 1-1/8" 8'-0" o.c.
1-3/8” to 2-1/8" 10'-0" o.c.
2-5/8" 12'-0" o.c.
C. In addition to the spacing listed above, provide hangers at each 90 degree change in direction at each elbow to prevent stresses in fittings.
D. Provide floor supports in the same intervals as given for hanger spacing criteria.
E. Provide vertical pipe riser clamps at each floor.
