General Construction Specifications

   PART 1 - GENERAL

    01 WORK INCLUDED

    A. Work specified under this section includes, but is not limited to, access doors in walls, ceilings, and floors, and removable cover plates in walls, ceilings, and floors for access to dampers, valves, equipment, etc.

    02 RELATED WORK

    A. Refer to Architectural Specifications and Drawings for ceiling types, finishes, etc.

    03 SUBMITTALS

    A. Submit product data to Architect for approval in accordance with Section 15010.

   PART 2 - PRODUCTS

    04 MANUFACTURERS

    A. Provide products as manufactured by Bilco, Miami-Carey, or Milcor.

    05 ACCESS DOORS

    A. Access doors shall be 14 gauge steel mounted in a 16 gauge frame. Doors shall be of welded steel construction with welds ground smooth. Doors shall be provided with concealed spring hinges, flush screwdriver operated cam locks, and factory applied rust-inhibitive prime coat finish.

    B. Provide UL listed, B label, 1-1/2 hour assemblies where access is required through 2-hour fire resistance rated construction.

    C. Provide access doors with expanded metal plaster rings, where applicable, or flange finish where located in drywall or block construction.

    D. Except as otherwise noted access doors shall be 24" x 24".

    E. Access doors located in concealed spline ceilings shall have finish to match ceiling.

    F. Access doors located in ceramic or glazed tile construction shall be stainless steel.

    06 APPLICATIONS AND LOCATIONS

    A. Provide access doors for access to the following mechanical items where located above acoustical concealed spline tile, drywall, or plastered masonry ceilings, or behind masonry, drywall (also "shaftwall"), plastered masonry, ceramic tile, or glazed structural tile walls:

    1. Valves - shutoff, balance, control, etc.

    2. Dampers - automatic, manual, fire, smoke, etc.

    3. Coils.

    4. VAV boxes.

    5. Condensate drain cleanouts.

    6. Grease duct cleanout plates.

    7. Fans.

    8. Electrical or control components of mechanical equipment.

    B. Provide access doors in other locations as shown on drawings.

   PART 3 - EXECUTION

    07 INSTALLATION

    A. Furnish panels to Contractor for installation under other Divisions.

    B. Coordinate with other trades to maintain area above access door free of conduit, piping, etc. which would hinder access to mechanical equipment.

    C. Access doors shall be painted to Architect's specifications by other trades.
