General Construction Specifications
PART 1 - GENERAL
01 SECTION INCLUDES
A. All labor, supervision, materials, services, artwork and required in conjunction with the fabrication, finishing, delivery and installation of all signs.
B. Requirements of this section are in addition to requirements of the Bidding/Contract Conditions and Division 1.
02 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Single Contractor: All speciality signs shall be contracted through a single firm specializing in this type of work for single source responsibility.
03 SUBMITTALS
A. Subsequent to award of the contract submit the following in accordance with Section 01300.
1. Fabrication shall not begin until all submittals have had proper approval by Designer and Owner.
2. Submit full size sample of each type of cast aluminum letter & typical interior sign.
3. Submit Shop Drawings indicating size and materials to be used on regulatory and OSHA signage.
4. Submit schedule indicating the message and location of all signage.
1.02 REFERENCE STANDARDS
A. The work shall comply with requirements of the following specifications, unless otherwise indicated:
1. Aluminum Association (AA): "Standards for Aluminum Mill Products", "Destination System for Aluminum Finishes, and "Standard for Anodically Coated Aluminum Alloy for Architectural Applications".
2. American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
3. American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
4. American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM).
5. Federal Specification (FS).
6. Manual on Uniform Traffic Control for Streets and Highways.
7. National Association of Architectural Metal Manufacturer (NAAMM) "Metal Bar Grading Manual", including Standard Specification, and "Metal Finishes Manual".
8. National Electrical Code (NEC).
9. Underwriters Laboratories (UL).
10. SSPC PA1 paint application specifications and applicable SSPC surface preparation specifications.
11. Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA).
1.03 DELIVERY, HANDLING, STORAGE
A. Products shall be delivered to job-site in original protective packaging bearing manufacturer's labels and in accordance with Section 01600.
B. Store and protect products in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and Section 01600.
1.04 PROTECTION
A. Protect finished work from staining and corrosion as follows:
1. Aluminum shall be separated from direct contact with metals other than stainless steel, zinc, cadmium, or nickel bronze by painting contact surfaces with zinc chromate primer and aluminum paint or with a coat of heavy-bodied bituminous paint or by non-absorptive tape or gasket.
2. Exterior aluminum in contact with wood, concrete or masonry shall be painted with zinc chromate primer and aluminum paint or heavy-bodied bituminous paint.
3. Finished work shall be wrapped with paper, polyethylene film, or strippable waterproof tape for shipment and storage and shall be protected from damage during installation.
4. Protect the work and adjacent work and materials against damage during progress of the work until completion.
5. In the event of damage, be responsible to make immediate repairs and/or replacements to the approval of the Owner and at no expense to him.
6. Spatters, drippings, smears, and/or spray shall be completely removed to the satisfaction of the Owner.
1.05 WARRANTIES
A. During the warranty period, the Contractor shall restore defective work to the standards set forth in the Contract Documents without any cost to the Owner.
B. All interior room signs and cast aluminum letters shall be warranted for five years against discoloration and delamination of any portion of the sign.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS

05 GRAPHICS ALLOWANCE
A. Provide a cash allowance of $4,000.00 for furnishing and installation of signage. Signage will include building identification graphics to match existing, interior signage to match existing and regulatory signs for sitework and building interiors.
B. Signage and graphics specified under other sections (exit signs, identification, etc.) are NOT to be considered as part of the graphics allowance.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
06 INSPECTION
A. General: Examine the substrate and the conditions under which the graphics are to be installed. Do not proceed with work until unsatisfactory conditions detrimental to the timely and proper completion of the work have been corrected.
07 PREPARATION
A. Coordinate with Engineer directions for the installation of items having anchors which are to be embedded into architectural substrates.
B. Surface Preparation: Cleaning and preparation of surfaces shall not damage or in any manner harm architectural substrates. Do not apply any graphic finishes until architectural substrates have been approved for application of graphics.
08 INSTALLATION
A. General: Install all signs using personnel thoroughly familiar with procedures used. Install sign units level, plumb and at height indicated with sign surfaces free from cracks, chips or other defects of appearance.
09 CLEANING AND ADJUSTMENT
A. All installed units are to be left level and fully cleaned.
