General Construction Specifications

   PART 1 - GENERAL

    01 SECTION INCLUDES

    A. Fibrated asphalt emulsion dampproofing, above-grade quality:

    1. Applied to concrete and concrete block walls on cavity side of brick veneer walls.

    02 REFERENCE STANDARDS

    A. ASTM D41 - Asphalt Primer Used in Roofing, Dampproofing and Waterproofing.

    B. ASTM D449 - Asphalt Used in Dampproofing and Waterproofing.

    C. NRCA - Waterproofing Manual.

    1.02 QUALITY ASSURANCE

    A. Bituminous dampproofing work shall be performed by a firm certified in writing by the dampproofing manufacturer.

    1. The firm shall specialize in this type of work and be able to demonstrate at least three years of successful experience in this type of dampproofing work.

    1.03 SUBMITTALS

    A. Submit the following in accordance with Section 01340.

    B. Manufacturer's Product Data: Clearly describing the quality of all materials and recommendations for application.

    1.04 DELIVERY, HANDLING, STORAGE

    A. Products shall be delivered to job-site in original unopened packages bearing manufacturer's labels.

    1. Comply with Section 01610.

    B. Store and protect products in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and Section 01620.

    1. Maintain temperature and humidity within ranges required by manufacturer's instructions.

   PART 2 - PRODUCTS

    03 BITUMINOUS DAMPPROOFING

    A. Type: Sonneborn's "HYDROCIDE 700B" fibrated asphalt emulsion dampproofing for application by brush or spray, ASTM D1227, Type IV, complete with primer and sealing mastic of type recommended by dampproofing manufacturer.

   PART 3 - EXECUTION

    04 APPLICATION

    A. Preparation:

    1. Prepare surfaces scheduled for dampproofing in accordance with dampproofing manufacturer's instructions.

    2. Surfaces shall be firm, dry and free from frost, loose particles, cracks, pits, rough projections, grease, oil and other foreign matter detrimental to adhesion and monolithic application of dampproofing.

    3. Do not perform dampproofing work during temperatures 40 degrees and below.

    B. Applications to Concrete and Concrete Block Walls:

    1. After preparing surfaces in accordance with manufacturer's instructions, apply dampproofing materials on exterior side of concrete block walls on cavity side.

    2. Apply dampproofing materials without voids in two separate coats.

    3. Each Coat: Minimum 3 gallons per 100 square feet.

    4. Drying Time: Allow first coat to dry 12 hours before applying second coat.

    5. Seal around all items projecting through walls with approved sealing mastic.

    3.02 CLEAN-UP

    A. After dampproofing work is completed, remove debris and scaffolds.

    B. Clean surfaces which are stained with dampproofing materials using a cleaner and method recommended by dampproofing manufacturer.

    C. Surfaces which are stained and cannot be cleaned shall be removed and replaced with new materials of same type and quality.
