CONSTRUCTION FACILITIES AND TEMPORARY CONTROLS
PART 1 GENERAL
1.01 SECTION INCLUDES

1.03 TEMPORARY ELECTRICITY
The Contractor may not connect to existing power service.
If additional service is required, provide temporary electrical service needed. Power consumption shall not disrupt Owner's need for continuous service.
C. Provide power outlets for construction operations, with branch wiring and distribution boxes located at each floor and as required. Provide flexible power cords as required.
D. Provide main service disconnect and over-current protection at convenient location feeder switch at source distribution meter.
E. Permanent convenience receptacles may not be utilized during construction.
F. Provide adequate distribution equipment, wiring, and outlets to provide single phase branch circuits for power and lighting.
1.04 TEMPORARY LIGHTING
A. Provide and maintain lighting for construction operations to achieve a minimum lighting level of 2 watt/sq ft.
B. Provide and maintain 1 watt/sq ft lighting to parking areas, off-site staging and storage areas after dark for security purposes.
Provide and maintain 0.50 watt/sq ft H.I.D. lighting to interior work areas after dark for security purposes.
Provide branch wiring from power source to distribution boxes with lighting conductors, pigtails, and lamps as required.
Maintain lighting and provide routine repairs.
Permanent building lighting may not be utilized during construction.
1.05 TEMPORARY HEAT
Provide and pay for heat devices and heat as required to maintain specified conditions for construction operations.
Maintain minimum ambient temperature of 50 degrees F, (10 degrees C) in enclosed areas where construction is in progress, unless indicated otherwise in specifications.
1.06 TEMPORARY VENTILATION
A. Contractor shall ventilate enclosed areas to assist cure of materials, to dissipate humidity, and to prevent accumulation of dust, fumes, vapors, or gases.
1.07 TELEPHONE SERVICE
A. Provide, maintain and pay for telephone service to field office at time of project mobilization. Provide and maintain in a suitable location, a pay phone for use by Contractor's employees.
1.08 TEMPORARY WATER SERVICE
A. Provide, maintain and pay for city water service required. Connect to existing water source for construction operations. Provide separate metering and reimburse Owner for cost of water used.
B. Extend branch piping with outlets located so water is available by hoses with threaded connections. Provide temporary pipe insulation to prevent freezing.
1.09 TEMPORARY SANITARY FACILITIES
A. Provide and maintain required facilities and enclosures for use by Contractors employees.
1.10 BARRIERS
A. Provide and maintain barriers and temporary handrails. Barriers and handrails shall meet load requirements applicable to prevent unauthorized entry to construction areas and to protect personnel, existing facilities, and adjacent properties from damage from construction operations and demolition.
B. Provide protection for plant life designated to remain. Replace damaged plant life.
C. Protect vehicular traffic, stored materials, site and structures from damage.
1.11 FENCING
A. Construction: Commercial grade chain link fence.
B. Provide temporary, six (6) foot high fence around each diversion structure site and tunnel access shaft; equip with vehicular and pedestrian gates with locks. Submit fencing plan prior to installation within thirty (30) days of Notice to Proceed. Fence shall have three (3) strands of barbed wire across the top. This fence shall be removed when permanent fencing is erected.
1.12 EXTERIOR ENCLOSURES
A. Provide temporary insulated weather-tight closure of exterior openings to accommodate acceptable working conditions and protection for Products, to allow for temporary heating and maintenance of required ambient temperatures identified in individual specification Sections, and to prevent entry of unauthorized persons. Provide access doors with self-closing hardware and locks.
1.13 PROTECTION OF INSTALLED WORK
A. Protect installed Work and provide special protection where specified in individual specification Sections.
B. Provide temporary and removable protection for installed Products. Control activity in immediate work area to minimize damage.
C. Provide protective coverings at handrails, walls, projections, jambs, sills, and soffits of openings.
D. Protect finished floors, stairs, and other surfaces from traffic, dirt, wear, damage, or movement of heavy objects, by protecting with durable sheet materials.
E. Prohibit traffic or storage upon waterproofed or roofed surfaces. If traffic or activity is necessary, obtain recommendations for protection from waterproofing or roofing material manufacturer.
F. Prohibit traffic from landscaped and completed areas.
1.14 PROGRESS CLEANING
A. Maintain areas free of waste materials, debris, and rubbish. Maintain site in a clean and orderly condition.
B. Remove debris and rubbish from pipe chases, plenums, attics, crawl spaces, and other closed or remote spaces, prior to enclosing the space.
C. Broom and vacuum clean interior areas prior to start of surface finishing, and continue cleaning to eliminate dust.
D. Remove waste materials, debris, and rubbish from site weekly and dispose off-site.
E. Provide receptacles around area to dispose of waste material and as required to maintain site as stated in Paragraph A.
1.15 REMOVAL OF UTILITIES, FACILITIES, AND CONTROLS
A. Remove temporary above grade or buried utilities, equipment, facilities, materials, prior to final acceptance.
B. Remove underground installations to a minimum depth of 2 feet. Grade site as indicated or required.
Clean and repair damage caused by installation or use of temporary work.
Restore existing facilities used during construction to original condition. Restore permanent facilities used during construction to specified condition.
